Forward Deployed Engineering

Engineers who embed with your team and ship AI into production

Forward deployed engineers work alongside the people who own a business problem to scope, build, integrate and deploy production software — including AI-powered workflows — in your own environment.

What we cover

  • Embedded, customer-facing engineers
  • Rapid prototypes and proofs of concept
  • LLM, RAG and AI agent implementation
  • API and enterprise system integration
  • Production deployment and observability
  • Handover and ongoing engineering support

Outcome: Working software in your environment, owned by your team when we step back.

How Forward Deployed Engineering engagements flow

  1. Problem discovery
  2. Rapid prototype
  3. Integration
  4. Production deployment
  5. Handover

Core Engineering

When the hard part is the last mile

Many AI and software initiatives stall between a promising demo and a system people use every day. The gap is rarely the model or the framework. It is understanding the real workflow, the data, the integrations, the security rules and the people who will run the system.

Forward deployed engineering closes that gap by putting engineers next to the problem. They work with your operators and domain experts, prototype quickly, and harden what works into production software deployed in your cloud or data center.

Not every engagement needs every capability on this page. We scope each one around the problem you need solved and the team that will own the result.

Problems we solve

Sound familiar?

  • AI pilots that never reach production

Proofs of concept that impressed in a demo but lack the integrations, evaluation and controls needed for daily use.

  • Requirements that only make sense on the ground

Workflows, exceptions and data quirks that are hard to capture in a specification written from a distance.

  • Systems that don't talk to each other

A process split across ERP, CRM, ticketing and document systems that has to be connected safely.

  • Too few engineers close to the business

Internal teams stretched across existing platforms, with nobody free to own a new initiative end to end.

Capabilities

What we deliver

We scope each engagement to the problem — not every project needs every capability.

Discovery & prototyping

Understand the problem, then prove the approach

Short cycles with the people who do the work, so the solution fits how your business actually operates.

  • Problem discovery. Workshops and working sessions with users and domain experts to map the workflow, data and decision points.
  • Rapid prototyping. Working prototypes tested against real examples from your business, not slideware.
  • Success criteria. Measures for quality, adoption and cost agreed before a build is scaled up.

AI application engineering

Production AI built into your workflows

LLM features, retrieval and agents engineered with evaluation and controls from the start.

  • LLM and RAG applications. Assistants and features grounded in your documents and data, citing their sources where that matters.
  • AI agent implementation. Tool-using agents for defined workflows, with approvals and audit trails wherever actions carry risk.
  • Evaluation and security. Test sets, automated evaluations and adversarial checks that show whether the system is ready for users.

Integration & deployment

Connected to your systems, deployed in your environment

Software that runs where your data lives and follows your security model.

  • API and enterprise integration. Connections to ERP, CRM, ITSM, document stores and internal APIs using your authentication and access rules.
  • Workflow automation. Automating the repeatable steps around a process, with clear points for human review.
  • Production deployment and observability. Infrastructure as code, CI/CD, logging, monitoring and alerting in your cloud or data center.

Ownership & support

Built to be owned by your team

Documentation, knowledge transfer and support options so the system keeps improving after launch.

  • Production readiness. Security review, performance testing, runbooks and rollback plans before go-live.
  • Knowledge transfer. Pairing, documentation and walkthroughs so your engineers can operate and extend the system.
  • Ongoing optimization. Optional continued engineering to tune quality, performance and cost using production data.

Use cases

Where it makes a difference

Typical scenarios, to show the kind of work involved.

  • Operations copilot

An assistant that drafts responses and next steps for an operations team, grounded in procedures and ticket history.

  • Document-heavy workflows

Extracting, checking and routing information from contracts, invoices or forms into downstream systems, with review queues for exceptions.

  • Purpose-built internal tools

Applications that replace spreadsheets and email chains for one specific business process.

  • Taking an AI pilot to production

Adding the integrations, evaluation, access control and monitoring an existing prototype needs before real users rely on it.

How we deliver

From first conversation to production

  1. Embed & discover

Meet the users, map the workflow, review data and systems, and agree what success looks like.

  2. Prototype

Build the smallest version that tests the riskiest assumption, using real examples.

  3. Build & integrate

Engineer the production version and connect it to the systems it depends on.

  4. Validate

Test quality, security, performance and failure handling against the agreed criteria.

  5. Deploy

Release into your environment with monitoring, alerting and a rollback plan.

  6. Hand over & optimize

Transfer knowledge to your team and keep improving the system from production evidence.

What you receive

  • A workflow map with agreed success criteria
  • A working prototype tested on real examples
  • Production code in your repositories
  • Infrastructure as code and deployment pipelines
  • Evaluation reports and test sets for AI features
  • Runbooks, documentation and handover sessions

Security, scale and operations

  • Security and access

Solutions use your identity provider and respect users' existing permissions; secrets and data stay in your environment.

  • Data privacy

We agree up front which data may reach which model providers, and use private endpoints or self-hosted models where data must stay in your control.

  • Reliability

Timeouts, fallbacks and human review for low-confidence results, with quality and cost monitored in production.

  • Ownership

Code, infrastructure and documentation live in your repositories and cloud accounts, so your team can run the system without us.

United States & Canada

Forward deployed engineering for teams across North America

Our engineers work alongside organizations in the United States and Canada — in your business hours, inside your tools and your security model — from a US headquarters in Troy, Michigan.

  • US headquarters in Troy, Michigan
  • Working sessions in North American business hours
  • Deployment into your own cloud accounts, including Canadian regions
  • On-site discovery and launch sessions agreed per engagement

Engagement options

Work with us the way that fits

We'll recommend a model after the first conversation.

FAQ

Common questions

Something else? Ask our team

What is forward deployed engineering?

It is an engineering model in which developers work directly with a customer's users and teams, close to the problem, to build and deploy software in the customer's environment — rather than handing over a generic product or a specification.

How is it different from staff augmentation?

Staff augmentation adds capacity to work your team has already defined. A forward deployed team owns a problem end to end — discovery, design, build, deployment and handover — while working closely with your people throughout.

Does every engagement involve AI?

No. Many engagements are integration or internal-tool projects. We use AI where it improves the workflow and its quality can be measured.

Where do your engineers work?

We agree the working model at the start — remote, on-site sessions for discovery and launch, or a mix — based on your needs, your location and your security requirements.

Who owns the code?

Ownership is set out in the contract. Our standard approach is to build in your repositories and cloud accounts from day one, so the code and infrastructure are yours.

Do you work with companies across the US and Canada?

Yes. We work with organizations across the United States and Canada. Our headquarters is in Troy, Michigan, delivery runs in North American business hours, and our Hyderabad team extends engineering capacity. The working model — remote, on-site sessions or a mix — is agreed at the start.
